Cad Manager for Mech AutoCAD
'Cad Manager' (CM)
The majority of the time as the CM would be applied to generating Customer Submittal drawings and
manufacturing ‘Job Packets’ as they relate to the manufacturing and production needs using the
AutoCAD 14 Cain Industries profile session. The balance of time would be applied to general
responsibilities but not necessarily limited to as the CM.
Typical Cad Engineer ‘CE’ & CM’s drawing responsibilities (majority of the time):
Learn use of AutoCAD 14 ‘User’ desktop layout profile and related custom
commands with integrated Bill of Materials ‘BoM’ and AutoCAD enhancements.
All drawing work and procedures have been programmed to help the structure and
maintenance of the Cad Department.
o Understand ‘CadEng’s Procedures’ defining how the Cad Department functions and
suggest updates during Cad biweekly Cad meetings for improvements and ideas.
Become indoctrinated with all products and generate Customer Submittal ‘Cust Sub’
drawings, ‘BoM’, and after customer approval generate the Job Packet assembly drawings
for the production floor.
o All Cust Sub’s, BoM’s, & Job Packets are reviewed by others by way of Sales Order
‘SO’ / Product dependent of magnitude.
Primary Cad drawing time would be via 2D type .dwg work and other minor simple 3D Sales
required preliminary submittal drawings via AutoDesk’s Inventor program.
Understand how Assembly drawings are manufactured to the degree where those drawings
and procedures might be improved.
o The CE & CM is at liberty to visit the Production Floor to view how his assigned SO
Job is progressing and make notes on those drawings to later update the as built
master ‘Mas’ Job drawing when returned after shipment.
After Cust Sub’s are issued, the CE occasionally receive phone calls from the client with
technical questions that might arise relating to customer submittal approval.
o Occasionally follow-up phone calls are required as to when the issued Cust Subs are
expected to be returned signed and dated marked ‘Approved for Production’.
Upon return of the Job Packet to the CE following product shipment, the Job Packet is
reviewed and archive scanned and discarded to close the CE’s assigned SO Job
responsibility.
As a Cad team member, offer guidance to other ‘CE’s relating to their customer questions.
CM’s leadership roles (minority of the time):
Assign ‘CE’s to new ‘SO’s when they are received that day.
Monitor and prioritize various CE’s work time and review the Production Status report
schedule with the Production and purchasing members.
Be involved in the review and approval process of Customer Submittal drawings with:
o The CE who generated the SO’s drawing work and others (i.e. the Sales Engineer
‘SE’ who sold the Job) would assist.
o Use Autodesk’s Inventor program, for simple 3D customer submittal or preliminary
drawings.
Participate in the weekly Friday ‘Production Planning’ meetings:
o View Production’s Job Task assignments for Assembler’s as scheduled within Cain’s
TracTime program.
o Check if other additional or missed Assembly drawings and/or BoM’s are required for
the following weeks’ production floor’s Job Tasks.
o Report the Cad Dept’s drawing status Job Packets.
Conduct bi-weekly AutoCAD department meetings in conference room.
Become involved in production floor conversations of issue with Job Task Supervisor and/or
Assembler and CE when drawing changes are required to help conclude a solution.
Seek ways to improve the production drawing ‘Job Packets’ (i.e. minimize production
drawings needed).
Later the CM would:
o Train new CE’s.
o Following the Cad Dept operating as presently designed with additional CEs,
develop a business plan to consider transitioning to a different platform of 3D.
o Work on unique/special designs with the President
Misc administration:
Work with ‘CE’s that they are following the ‘CadEngs Procedures’ guidelines.
Help monitor office decorum regarding attire and limited electronic devices, no cell phone
use while working, basic no internet access rules, no distracting ear or audible listening
devices.
CI understands that there is a learning curve involved where team members would offer
educational assistance to the CM as needed.
o Training would initially occur seamlessly starting with the President and then with the
help from other CEs regarding different product lines and AutoCAD & BOM features.
Discuss with the President ideas for that might offer improved drawing flow and personnel
cohesiveness in the Cad Dept.
