Electrical Engineer PLC/Controls
The electrical and controls engineer is responsible for all aspects of the design, detail drafting, and documentation preparation required to develop and improve various components and equipment related to custom-designed induction heating systems.
Description of work:
• Support the Engineering Manager in the design and specification of electrical systems that move and orient parts to be processed in our Induction Heating Systems.
• Design, Specify and Configure control systems including enclosures, transformers, fuses, disconnects, relays, PLCs, HMIs, computers, servo drives, sensors, pneumatics, etc.
• Design new control systems for custom and new products.
• Specify and configure transformers and capacitors for load matching induction heating power supplies.
• Support the product development team in configuring and testing current and new power supply topologies.
• Detail part drawings, process ECO's and create BOM.
• Create custom PLC/HMI software.
• Work with minimal supervision to complete projects on time and within budget.
• Select and supervise outside contractors and vendors as required.
• Ensure that the electrical performance, safety, and reliability of our systems are “Best in class”.
• Influence how own work assignments are completed. Some creativity in accomplishing assignments and use of discretion and independent judgment required.
• Resolve any problems encountered in the fabrication and construction of experimental or production machines.
• Test equipment on the shop floor – consisting of power checks, and installing/testing PLC/HMI software
• Generating support documentation including operator’s and maintenance manuals
• occasional travel to customer job sites
Qualifications:
• BSEE/BSEET required
• 2 to 10 years design and test of custom machines.
• Experience specifying/programming Allen-Bradley PLC/HMI and Maple Systems HMIs
• 2 to 10 years design and test of custom machines.
• Must have significant current AutoCAD experience
• Working knowledge of RLC circuits.
• Working knowledge of three phase power including power rectifiers.
• Working knowledge of half and full-wave bridge power inverters.
• Knowledge of standards [e.g. CSA, CE, UL, ANSI, NEC, ASME, etc.]
• Experience managing projects on time and on budget.
• Must be able to convey technical vision clearly and simply to management.
• Must have excellent technical writing and oral communication skills.
• Robotics Experience a plus
