Job Duties:

• Read work orders, production schedules and blueprints to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of bending lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
• Set up, operate, and tend machines to bend or straighten metal materials.
• Start machines, monitor their operations, and record operational data.
• Test and adjust machine speeds or actions, according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
• Install, align, and lock specified punches, dies, or other fixtures in rams or beds of machines, using gauges, shims, and hand tools.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines when necessary.
• Position, align, and secure work pieces against fixtures or stops on machine beds or on dies.
• Adjust ram strokes of presses to specified lengths.
• Position guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct work pieces, using hand tools and measuring devices.
• Plan sequences of operations, applying knowledge of physical properties of work piece materials.
• Grind out burrs or sharp edges, using portable grinders.
• Measure completed work pieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or tape measures.
• Perform first piece inspections and examine completed work pieces for defects.
